Leeds United v Newcastle United Premier League Wednesday 16th December 2020

This was the first midweek round of fixtures, as there’s 4 rounds of matches over the next two weeks.

Leeds haven’t been great at home, but were looking for a 2nd home win of the season against a Newcastle side who have had Covid problems.

It was played at Elland Road and was a 6pm kickoff so a chance for Leeds to move slightly up the table.

After ten minutes, Klich’s right footed shot from outside the box blocked.

Two minutes later, Rodrigo’s left footed shot from centre of box too high.

After 16 minutes, Klich’s header from centre of box missed to the right.

Two minutes later, another Leeds attempt as Cooper’s header from centre of box save din top corner. Then Raphinha’s right footed shot from right side of box blocked.

Four minutes later, Raphinha’s left footed shot too high.

After 26 minutes,  Newcastle’s first attempt as Fraser’s right footed shot from left side of box saved. Hendrick’s right footed shot from right side of six yard box went into the bottom left corner, and Newcastle ahead against the run of play totally.

After the half hour mark, Raphinha’s left footed shot from centre of box save din centre of goal.

A minute later, Dallas’ left footed shot from outside the box missed to the left.

A minute later, another Leeds attempt as Raphinha’s header from centre of box save dto top right corner.

A minute later, Leeds finally got their reward as Bamford’s header from very close ranger went into the centre of goal. 

After 38 minutes, Wilson’s attempt for Newcastle was too high.

The last meaningful action of first half was a Dallas shot from outside the box which was blocked.

So a very good first half from Leeds, a half where they dominated but were only level, could they be more ruthless in the second half?

After 49 minutes, Joelinton’s header from centre of box too high.

Two minutes later, Ayling’s header from centre of box blocked.

Two minutes later, Raphinha’s left footed shot from outside box missed.

On the hour mark, Harrison crossed and Rodrigo’s header from centre of box went into the bottom right corner, and Leeds were ahead, could they hold on?

 Two minutes later, Bamford’s left footed shot from left side of box saved in bottom corner.

After 65 minutes, Clark’s header from a corner went into the bottom left corner, and Newcastle were level.   Another setpiece goal conceded by Leeds.

 With 20 minutes remaining, Dallas’ left footed shot blocked.

After 77 minutes, from close range, Dallas’s header into the bottom left corner put Leeds ahead for the second time, could they extend the lead this time?

After 85 minutes, a quick Leeds counter attack and Alioski’s left footed shot from centre of the box went tin to the high centre of the goal, for his first Premier League goal.

With two minutes remaining, another quick Leeds counter attack, and Harrison ran and ran and his left footed shot from outside the box went into the top right corner for a stunning goal.

Fulltime score: Leeds United 5-2 Newcastle United

 So an  excellent performance from Leeds, but they only really put Newcastle to the sword in the last 10 minutes, but never the less it’s a 2nd home win in the Premier League for Leeds which left them 13th with 17 points.

Next up for Leeds United is a game not to be missed as they renew their rivalry with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday 20th December 2020 with a 4:30pm kickoff.
